Description
Route of administration and dosage
The drug is taken orally, irrespective of food intake.
If a dose is missed, it should be taken as soon as possible; if the time for the next dose is approaching, the forgotten dose should be skipped and subsequent doses taken at the usual time. It is unacceptable to take a double dose of the drug, as exceeding the daily dose of 2.5 mg leads to an increase in systemic side effects of the drug. The recommended dose of Letrozole is 2.5 mg once daily on a daily, long-term basis.
As adjuvant therapy and prolonged adjuvant therapy, treatment should be continued for 5 years or until disease recurrence occurs (no longer than 5 years).
In patients with metastatic breast cancer, treatment should be continued until signs of disease progression occur.
During the neoadjuvant (pre-operative) period, treatment with letrozole should be continued for 4-8 months to achieve optimal tumour size reduction. If there is no adequate tumour response, treatment with the drug should be discontinued, followed by surgical treatment or consideration of another type of treatment.
